ADCP Installation on the GIWW

June 2023–Present | ENCOS was contracted by T Baker Smith in the construction and installation of three data

ENCOS was contracted by T Baker Smith for the construction and installation of three data collection platforms (DCPs) in the Intracoastal waterway. The DCPs installed are equipped with Sontek SL500 ADCPs to measure the velocity across the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The DCPs consist of four aluminum poles, driven to refusal in the streambed. The support poles were made of two sections for easier installation. After the poles were driven, the top section was attached and a fiberglass platform was installed at a known height above the water. A support bracket was then attached to three of the legs to provide more rigidity to the structure. The electronics enclosure was mounted to one of the legs, above the platform. The solar panel and navigation light were then attached to two different poles. The system was wired and the ADCP was installed onto the support leg that was facing the opposite bank of the channel. The flow was monitored, and the instrument was adjusted to be perpendicular to the waterflow.
