ENCOS Inc., (ENCOS) was contracted by Freese and Nichols to provide water level, wave, and current data near Mozambique Point in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. The collected data supported preconstruction verification of the effectiveness of proposed island design.ENCOS installed multiple instruments to collect the design teams’ required data. The ENCOS field team installed one Nortek 3D Acoustic Wave and Current Profiler (AWAC) approximately one and a half miles southeast of Mozambique Point and installed one YSI 600 OMS (600) vented water quality sonde on the east side of Mozambique Point. The 600-instrument collected water depth, salinity, specific conductivity, and water temperature once per hour. The AWAC was bottom-mounted and facing upward to provide measurements of wave direction, wave height, wave period, current speed, and current direction. The AWAC collected one 20-minute wave burst every hour and current speed and direction once per hour. ENCOS also installed a Unipole to house the YSI 600 OMS vented water quality sonde. These measurements will support model calibrations for proposed and future coastal restoration projects. ENCOS was responsible for all station design, construction, installation, and deployment of instruments. After data collection concluded, the data were reviewed and QAQC’d; then packaged in ASCII format for submittal to the client. All water level data were adjusted to North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD 88).
